About Emirates

Emirates is an airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is owned by the government of Dubai through their Investment Corporation of Dubai.

Emirates flies to 105 cities in 62 countries across 6 continents. They operate over 2,400 flights per week out of Dubai International Airport. They only operate wide-body airplanes which makes them one of only nine airlines in the world that don’t operate small planes. They have 151 aircraft in their fleet and most of their planes are very young with the average age of 69 months.

They have the world’s largest collection of Boeing 777s with 86 in their fleet. They also have the largest collection of Airbus A380’s. More than 1/3 of the company’s revenue comes from Europe and the Americas. They have three of the world’s longest non-stop flights in Dubai to Los Angeles, Dubai to San Francisco and Dubai to Houston. Emirates is the largest airline in the Middle East in terms of passengers, fleet size and revenue. If you look at Emirates on a global basis they are the sixth-largest airline in the world in terms of passengers carried.

Emirates operates out of Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport and is the only airline that has access to this terminal. It cost $4.5 billion to build and opened in 2008. Terminal 3 is the largest building in the world by floor space alone with over 370 acres of space. When you look at just international seating capacity, Emirates is the largest airline in the world.

Emirates became the first airline in the world to offer personal entertainment to its customers by putting televisions in the back of passenger seats in 1992. They now offer 600-1000 different channels which is the largest in the world.

The Emirates Super Jumbo Airbus A380 allows first class passengers to take a shower on board, the first airline to offer this feature. Emirates operates out of Dubai International Airport which is the third busiest in the world after Atlanta and Beijing. Emirates has been awarded the Skytrax Airline of the year in 2001, 2002, 2013 and 2015 which is the highest honor an airline can receive in the industry. In 2017, Emirates was voted the 4th best airline behind Qatar, Singapore, and ANA. It is the only major airline that is not part of an alliance. Their CEO would just prefer to stay on their own.
