Qatar Airways Business Class Cabins

In January 2015, Qatar Airways operated the first commercial flight of the new Airbus A350-900 on a flight from Doha to Frankfurt. It became the most modern aircraft in the world. Qatar Airways ordered the largest order of this plane ever when they purchased 80. That was about 10% of all 777-350’s ordered worldwide by airplane operators.

On all Qatar Airways planes is the purple Oryx on Qatar Airways fin. The Oryx is national animal of Qatar and was completely extinct from the wild in 1972. The Oryx was reintroduced to the wild starting in 1982. Initially two herds were used to reintroduce the Oryx back. One from a Zoo in Phoenix, Arizona and another one from a “private collection” in Saudi Arabia. After 25 years the Oryx has spread across the Arabian Peninsula and wildlife experts now list the Oryx as only “vulnerable” as far as extinction. An amazing recovery.

Qatar Airways Hubs and Destinations

Only a handful airlines connect their hubs with a straight flight to all 6 inhabited continents, Qatar Airways is one of them. Hamad International is only one of 5 airports in the world to offer these flights to all 6 of these continents. George Bush Airport in Houston is the only airport in the United States to offer this.

The daily service from Doha to Auckland which started in late 2016 became the longest flight on earth. The distance between Qatar’s capital and the biggest city in New Zealand is 14,536 kilometres. The flight is listed at an estimated 18 hours and 30 minutes. The plane required to make this trip is the Boeing 777-200LR (longer range).

The new hub opened in 2014 and is only 8 miles from the Doha city center and is reachable by metro and buses. Interestingly, Hamad International Airport has longer runways than most international airports because of the extreme heat planes aren’t allowed to operate at full thrust and therefore next extra time to lift off.

Qatar Airways Partnerships

In 2013, Qatar Airways announced support for the La Liga Champion FC Barcelona soccer team. One of the best soccer clubs in the world. The deal was worth an estimated 60 million Euros per year. This is the team of world famous player Lionel Messi. La Liga players appear on all on-board entertainment systems. Qatar’s safety videos before each flight actually have their soccer stars demonstrating safety features. The video is so popular it has been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube.

All airlines are racing to introduce the latest flight technology with the best and newest planes. However, Qatar became the first airline to operate all of them when they introduced the A350, the Dreamliner and the Super Jumbo A380.
