But, once you go inside, you will be amazed by the numerous fine Victorian carvings. Highlights include the marble high altar, statues of saints, and unique Expressionist-style stations of the cross.
  5. Manchester Town Hall- Built in 1877, the building has an imposing façade from the neo-Gothic age. It faces Albert Square and the tower offers excellent panoramic views of the city. Inside, the Council Chamber deserves special attention, along with the cycle of Ford Madox Brown paintings that depict the history of the city.
  6. National Football Museum- No, not that football. We are talking about the beautiful sport – soccer. Home to two of Europe’s most popular and dominant teams – Manchester City and Manchester United. This museum is a great place to pay your respects to the country’s favorite sport.   7. Chetham’s Library- Just north of Manchester Cathedral and dating back to 1422, originally a residence for priests is now a music school and library. It is one of the oldest public libraries in England. In use since 1653, the library has over 100,000 books, more than half of them were printed before 1850. Chetham is famous as the meeting place of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels during Marx’s visit to Manchester.
  8. Whitworth Art Gallery- A beautiful red bricked, columned entrance with circular driveway makes for a grand entrance into this gallery which houses some spectacular pieces of art.
