First Time Flying Lufthansa Business Class to Rome

Flying Lufthansa Business Class to Rome is an experience like no other. Lufthansa, one of Europe’s largest airlines, is renowned for its superior service and state-of-the-art planes, including the Boeing 747-8, which we flew on our Business Class Flight from Newark to Frankfurt. Frankfurt, Lufthansa’s primary hub, operates as the only airport from which they fly their 747s internationally.

Lufthansa Business Class

As seasoned economy flyers, upgrading to Lufthansa Business Class for the first time was an exciting change. We had originally planned to fly in economy class, but after some consideration and discussions, we opted for the upgrade. It was over our 8th wedding anniversary, and we wanted to make the journey to Italy even more special.

Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Access

Accessing the lounge was a breeze—just scan your boarding pass, and you’re in. The lounge was newly renovated, and while it was quiet when we first arrived, it quickly filled up as more travelers arrived. The amenities were comfortable, but I was surprised there was no table service. I had to go up to the bar to order my Aperol spritz, which I enjoyed immensely. The cold food bar was available, but the hot food left much to be desired. Still, the lounge offered a relaxed place to await our Business Class Flight to Italy.

Priority Boarding and Seating Experience

Boarding was easy with Lufthansa Business Class, with priority boarding for Business Class passengers. However, the boarding process was a bit hectic as most passengers tried to board at once. Once onboard, it was clear that Business Class was a whole different level of comfort. The seats, arranged in a 2x2x2 configuration on the 747, provided ample space, far exceeding the cramped quarters of economy class. Each seat came with a blanket, pillow, noise-canceling headphones, and a small amenities kit, setting the tone for the luxurious flight ahead.

Lufthansa Business Class on International Flights

Flying back from Frankfurt on an Airbus A350-9, I experienced Lufthansa’s new Allegris Business Class setup. The layout was even more private, with better seat separation, perfect for solo travelers. The only downside was the small entertainment screen, which I found difficult to use due to its placement and distance from my seat. Still, I appreciated the extra room and privacy.

Dining in Lufthansa Business Class

Once settled, we were offered a welcome drink—an Avionic aperitif for me and champagne for my partner. For dinner, we enjoyed a delicious beef tataki salad as an appetizer, followed by a main course of beef and potatoes for me, and shrimp and scallops for my partner. The food, although good, didn’t surpass the quality I expected. However, the drink selection, which included an array of wines and cocktails, added to the overall experience.

Breakfast was also a delight. A box of Lindt chocolates awaited us when we woke up, and a cup of coffee was the perfect morning treat. I could have opted for espresso, but I stuck with the coffee. My partner enjoyed a coconut chia oatmeal with mixed berries, completing the perfect Business Class travel experience.

Comparison: Economy vs. Lufthansa Business Class

While the experience was top-notch, it also highlighted the stark contrast between flying economy and Business Class. In Business Class, the seats were laid out for comfort, and the service was exceptional. The food and drinks, the extra legroom, and the priority boarding made all the difference. After experiencing this level of comfort, it will be hard to go back to economy. If you want to experience this luxury on your next trip to Italy, take advantage of Business Class Flights to Italy and explore Lufthansa Business Class options.
